We stayed one night at this location. It was by far the worst stay at any Holiday inn we've ever stayed at. I am an IHG member and only stay at holiday inns because you can always expect cleanliness and consistency. We stayed in room 110. Part of the curtain was missing, so you could see right in the room. We had to stack pillows in the window sill. The heater was all or nothing and it was in the single digits, so we spent all night either sweating or freezing. The continental breakfast was terrible, and the serving spoon in the gravy was so hot that it burned and blistered my wife's hand. This stay was not at all what I have grown to expect from Holiday Inn.
I clearly remember leaving an item in my room during my stay here and its exact placement in the room. I left the hotel to drive all the way home and called the same evening to report a lost item once I realized it was missing. I was told there was nothing left in the room and that I could not speak with a manger. Very fishy as I am 100% positive of the location of the item and where it was left. I realize I left an item, but the fact that I was not given any support via management or the hotel staff leads me to believe this item was stolen by the hotel staff. Am frequently in the area on business and I will never be staying here again.
Holiday Inn Express in Merrillville, Indiana was the worst stay my family and I have ever had with Holiday Inn. The curtains were different lengths so for privacy we had to put pillows in the window. The food at breakfast had obviously been sitting out for too long under heat lamps because everything was hard or overcooked (we went to breakfast at 7:30). Then I burnt my hand on the metal that had broken through the rubber handle on the metal spoon that had been under the heat lamp as well. Will not be staying there again and as a previous Holiday Inn staying family always, will second guess my loyalty to them.
Convenient place to stay while traveling around Chicago. Good, solid hotel. Nothing that will blow you away, but it was clean and the breakfast is decent. Coffee was always available and the staff was friendly. Rooms are nice with new beds. A couple lights were out in the room but no big deal. Staff gave us a couple complimentary bottles of water. Overall a good stay and would return.
If you are on business in Gary like I was, this is absolutely a safe and very nice place to stay where it is quiet away from the highway with lit parking in clear view of rooms. They have new King sized beds with microwave and fridge in my room, which was a great bonus to my sleep. The staff is always friendly and 1 woman was humorously in good moods all the time. Their simple breakfast was healthy and good, although simple eggs and sausage patties for protein, but had other fruits and carbs to fill. There is a nice pool and small gym with 1 elliptical and 1 treadmill.
